I had been wanting to visit Waco, Texas for years now.
My husband and I decided to take a trip there to celebrate our 2nd year wedding anniversary. I am a huge fan of Chip and Joanna Gaines from their famous show “Fixer Upper.” They have done an outstanding job with the Silos. This couple has created such a sense of home and love throughout all the shops. It started with a dream and a vision that included two abandoned cottonseed silos that now have become a tourist favorite. The day we went to visit it was raining and a cold front had just blown in. We decided to go with the flow and enjoy our visit. We were greeted by two cheerful young ladies who asked where we were from and what brought us to Waco. My husband immediately started to engage in conversation with the two ladies as I walked around in awe.
I was so impressed with the presentation of the items, the friendly staff and the simplicity of how everything was arranged in each shop. As we walked to each shop in the rain we were greeted with a smile and a warm welcome. The rain worked to our advantage since there were not a lot of people. I was told beforehand it is best to visit during the week. The rain stopped and we were able to get a sweet treat from the Silos Baking Company. They had food trucks in their beautiful courtyard with plenty of seating. They also have a restaurant located about two and a half miles from the Silos with some great food.
I walked away thinking they have captured a true culture of excellence, friendliness, and honoring heroes. Along, with the visit to the Silos, we also toured the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum. If you enjoy history this Museum has a lot to offer. Finally, we also went to the Cameron Park Zoo. It was full of lots of exhibits, but by far my favorite was the Komodo dragon. If you like animals like me then this
is a place to stop and visit. I recommend Waco as a fun getaway with your spouse. We all need to take that time to reconnect with our spouses and have a little fun!
