My Cheap Trendy Clothes Guide

1

Shopping cheap has always been a huge passion of mine. I tend to think it’s because of my upbringing and being raised by a single mom, but she always worked extra hard to make sure we always had everything we needed. I remember our annual shopping trips to San Antonio or Houston for school shopping despite what the bank account said. Layaway was always a close friend of ours.

But even as a young child, I always had a passion for shopping cheap. It meant that my $20 would stretch much further if I shopped the clearance racks instead. These shopping habits have carried on with me even into adulthood. I don’t mean to brag by any means, but I am often complimented on my fun wardrobe. Compliments are nice, but nothing beats responding, “I got it for $3.”

My Penny Saving Tips

Head Straight for the Sales Racks

I started following this tactic not to save money, but because I was often overwhelmed with the sheer amount of clothes at most stores. I’m the type of person who needs to look at every single item before making a decision. Now, I head straight to the clearance racks and the amount of clothes I need to sift through is drastically reduced. Besides, this is where most of the cheap stuff is anyway.

Set a Budget

Go in with a budget for yourself. I know this sounds crazy, but I try to set a budget of $3 for tops and $10 for bottoms. Most times, I can manage, but if I go over my budget, it’s still nothing compared to the full-price items.

Check RetailMeNot

Before you head to the checkout line, be sure to check RetailMeNot.com for any coupons you may find. Most times, you don’t even need to print them. Just show the cashier the coupon on your phone and you’re good to go.

Wait

When all else fails, just wait. If you find a really nice piece of clothing that you want but don’t want to pay full price for it, just wait. Keep an eye on it every time you hop into the mall, and eventually, you’ll find your favorite piece in the beloved clearance rack. It has happened to me too many times to count.

Go Thrifting

I highly recommend giving thrifting a chance if you’re somewhat skeptical. Thrifting is your best bet at finding one-of-a-kind pieces at great prices. You can often find designer pieces or items with their tags still on them.

JCPenney

JCPenney is usually one of my first stops when I head to La Palmera Mall. I will usually hit the clearance racks to find the best deals. One of my biggest wins was when I found a rack full entirely of $0.99 items. Be sure to always check RetailMeNot.com for JCPenney as there is almost always a coupon available.

Macy’s Backstage

Another hotspot at the mall for cheap clothes is the Backstage section of Macy’s. Macy’s sends overstock items to the backstage area which contains items from home goods to clothing. The best part is, there is a clearance rack on already cheap clothing!

Threads

For trendy thrift finds, be sure to check out Threads. The inventory is always changing with fun finds include vintage items. The prices can’t be beaten and you can also sell your clothes for store credit or cash.

Fallas Paredes

This store is my all-time favorite store for unique finds at really cheap prices. At first glance, this store might seem overwhelming, but once you sift through the racks, you will find some really cute items at prices that you won’t believe.

Finding cute clothes shouldn’t be expensive. Couponing, thrifting, and hitting the clearance racks are a great start to finding items that allow for a guilt-free shopping spree.
