Top 10 Gifts for an Elementary Boy

0

This year for Christmas we are trying to be very intentional with the gifts that we give our kids.

Top 10 Gifts - Elementary BoyI know that they will get toys and fun things from the grandparents and the last thing I want to do is fill their rooms back up with toys that won’t be played with for more than a day. I have compiled a list of the Top Ten Gifts you can get an Elementary Boy: a few toys and some other fun ideas!

Top 10 Gifts - Elementary Boy-2

  1. Rock Collection: I don’t know about you, but my son can not pass up a rock without trying to stick 1 or 2 in his pockets….that may or may not eventually end up all over our house and in the laundry. Ahem. Getting them something that is a legitimate rock collection that they can organize might just save your own sanity {and vacuum}! Most of these collections are under $30.00
  2. Fossil Kits: I think the obsession with dinosaurs is just a right of passage for a boy. It never fails when our son is at soccer practice that 3 or 4 of them start growling like dinosaurs and talking about how big they are. There are a zillion dinosaur toys you can get, but these fossil kits are something that can be used to learn and decorate their rooms! There are many that they can dig up, some that you build! Many of the kits you can get between $20.00 and $30.00.
  3. 3-wheeled scooters: This is for the younger elementary boys. We made a mistake last Christmas when we got our son a the traditional 2-wheeled version. He just did not have balance enough for him to enjoy it so we spent a lot of time bent over taking him “for a ride” on it. This year we are getting both of our kids one of these 3-wheeled scooters so they can play outside with a little more independence. As your elementary boy gets the hang of it then you can upgrade to the bigger versions. Depending on how fancy you get will determine the price, most of them are between $25.00-$60.00. If you get the ones with motors, the price climbs.
  4. Books: You may have recently read my post about Raising Readers, we are pretty book focused in our house in this season, and I am still trying to find books that spark my son’s interest. Just last night as we were reading our “Elf on the Shelf” book to bring our Scout Elf to the house I could see him wandering and playing with whatever was within reach. Sigh. Alas, I did find these few books that I think he will really like to look at and read with me! And unless you are buying large book sets you can typically stay under $20.00.
  5. Master Chef Junior Cooking Set: My son LOVES to help me in the kitchen! I have also found that if he helps me make dinner, he is more willing to try new things because “he cooked it.” I saw this cooking set and thought of him! I also like that these sets are gender neutral because a lot of cooking sets are typically geared towards girls. {Don’t EVEN get me started on how wrong that is, and how much I feel like both boys and girls need to learn how to cook}. There are several different Master Chef Junior cooking sets and they are all under $40.00.
  6. Star Wars Lamp: I know not EVERYONE is a Star Wars fan, but in our house we all love Star Wars. I have been searching for a table lamp for my son for a while that wasn’t too big and didn’t look like a baby lamp. I found this Star Wars Millennium Falcon lamp that comes in lots of different colors and is totally reasonably priced! There was also a Darth Vader one but the reviews on this one was much better.
  7. Model Building Kits: There are so many different kits to choose from! Robots, Boats, Cars, Planes, you name it! This one is not only a fun gift but it is also classifies as a “gift of time” this is something that you give with the promise to help and be there to help them build it! What a great memory! Depending on how intricate your kit is will determine the price but most are under $30.00
  8. Build them an indoor climbing wall: I actually saw one of my fellow CCMB Contributors Paulina do this for her three boys recently with wood for the base and holds. My first reaction was AHHHHH do I want them literally climbing my walls. But then I thought about all the rainy days that my son comes and tells me he is bored, they could be on to something! You will want to plan and research to make sure you do not damage your house! You could also choose to do the same version but outdoors. Depending on your budget will determine how fancy you get with your climbing wall. {if you make one please tag us, I want to see it!}
  9. Fort Building Kit: When I was a kid, I remember making forts out of old Christmas trees that people threw in the field behind our houses. Now they have these cool kits that the kids can use to make an indoor fort and the connection pieces glow in the dark. I feel like this is a great way for your kids to have fun, use their thinking/problem solving, and get away from electronics. Prices vary!
  10. Lite-Brite: Hear me out! Do you remember your old Lite-Brite!!! If you are trying to stay away from gifting electronics and giving things that will bring your family together, this could be such a fun gift! I’m willing to bet that if this gift makes its way under the tree you will have hours of fun together making memories!

What is under your tree this year for the Elementary Boy in your life?

If you have been racking your brain hopefully this list has helped! Just remember: the best gift we can give is our TIME!
