Decorate Pumpkins (without the carving mess)

0

I LOVE pumpkins! Interestingly enough I only like to look at them, I don’t like pumpkin flavored anything (#sorrynotsorry) but still – pumpkins are my favorite part of the season.

Last year we carved pumpkins with our boys and I must confess it wasn’t my favorite.

Of course, my husband and I did most of the work but the hole process was messy and just not enjoyable for me. Thankfully, there are many other ways to decorate pumpkins, here are some ideas.

Vinyl cut outs:

It’s super fun to design and cut out your very own vision of how you want your pumpkin to look! You can do your last name, a number, silly or scary faces, the sky is the limit! I designed and cut a haunted town and loved how it turned out!

Tips: make sure you have good quality transfer paper. The last one I bought was on the cheaper side and made it difficult to transfer the cut out. The pumpkin’s surface is not ideal for glue and my transfer paper was too strong so it was hard to transfer plus it left residue on the vinyl. Use Convertio to turn your jpg or png into a cutter compatible svg file. Have fun!

The following options are less fancy and more kid friendly and not too messy oh, and I found them all at the Dollar Tree. So, in essence, very great all around!

Foam stickers:

Fun for even the littlest ones in the family. Mix and match eyes, mouths, ears, fangs, wings, etc. Silly creations for all!

Plastic inserts:

I was surprised to find this option at the Dollar Tree, they are very basic and, of course not licensed but for the few days that the pumpkins will last they are very cost effective!

Little hands might need adult help since the pumpkins are quite thick – A fun activity to do together!

Pumpkin costumes:

These are so so simple and easy but so adorable! They have a mummy and a witch but with a little bit of creativity you can turn ordinary things that you already have on hand into cute costumes for the pumpkins. You could even turn it into a contest!

Temporary tattoos:

Super cheap and super fun.

Find your favorite characters and add them to your pumpkin how you would put them on your skin!

Now for the more crafty crowd there are far more artistic options such as glittered patterns, paint, decoupage, washi tape, etc. Really when it comes to decorating pumpkin the possibilities are endless and there are options for all tastes and ages! I even found these decorated with flowers and leaves!

What’s your favorite way to decorate your pumpkins?

Bonus: Here is the image I created for the haunted town just turn it into an svg and you can use it if you have a cutter!
