Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, so it’s time to get in gear! I, personally, LOVE just about everything about Valentine’s Day. So much so that I usually celebrate for a week or two! {In fact, here is a blog I wrote about 14 Days of Love over at Austin Moms Blog.}
In addition to celebrating for multiple days, I also like to come up with fun and creative Valentine’s for my kids to take to school & clever ways to decorate my house. Before you run screaming away from this blog, let me be brutally honest: These are SUPER easy and take minimal time/effort. I would love to be that Pinterest mom who crafts for hours on end, but, like 99.5% of moms: I ain’t got time for that mess!
With that being said, here are a few of my fave DIY projects that were made using things I already had at the house.
We make quite the ‘pear’ of pals!
Materials Needed:
- Pear Fruit Cups
- Cardstock or Paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Marker
- Tape or Glue Dots
Directions: Literally the easiest project ever. We buy fruit cups in bulk from Amazon Prime, so I had a ton of these in the pantry. I traced around the top of the fruit cup, cut them out, wrote our clever little message, and taped it on top. Easy peasy. And, bonus: NO CANDY!
Decorating with Light.
This one is super cute and fun. When I was a contributor for Austin Moms Blog, I put this DIY together after using lights to create an alternate Christmas tree that year!
It turned out super cute and decorating with light is still one of my favorite things to do!
Whoopee! It’s Valentine’s Day!
Materials Needed:
- Mini Whoopee Cushions
- Cardstock or Paper
- Marker
- Tape or Glue Dots
Directions: Fun and silly! My second grader thought it was just about the best thing ever. These were leftover from birthday party goodie bags. {Purchased in bulk on Amazon, natch.} I used card stock, wrote the quick message and taped the whoopee cushions on the card. SO EASY. You could change up the message to something more valentine-y if you want, or even print out the cards, but my boy wanted it super basic so that is what we did.
A Heart Attack. Simple & Sentimental.
So…this one takes a little time. It is so, so easy to craft, but it does take time and thought. All you need is some construction paper, scissors, a pen, and some time. Full details and post here. I’m not gonna lie: I think this is the most perfect DIY Valentine gift ever. Whether it’s for your husband, your best friend, your children, their teachers – it is super thoughtful and the recipient will be overwhelmed. It’s also a really great thing to keep close throughout the year – they can grab a heart at any time and be reminded of a fun memory or get their love tank filled by reading words of affirmation from you. Seriously such a perfect gift!
