Favorite Christmas Traditions :: Jennifer

0

When I was growing up, I don’t remember having too many “traditions” that were set in stone… other than it never failed that I was sick on Christmas. Sigh.

But I digress. Because of my mom’s changing schedule, we were always pretty flexible about when and how we celebrated holidays. Once married with kids, my husband and I wanted to start some of our own traditions.

Here are my two favorites!

:: New Ornaments Every Year

In the beginning of our marriage, like most newlywed couples, we generic store-bought ornaments mixed with a few family ornaments given to us by our parents. At some point, we decided that we would each choose a new ornament each year. I decided even if my tree seemed bare, I wanted to fill it with ones that represented our individual personalities and tastes! We also started to get an ornament on any vacation or family trip we take! This year as we decorated the tree I was overcome with happiness seeing our memories fill the tree! Yes, I have several Elsa’s and a giant Iron Man, but how much fun it will be when our kids are older to remind them of what they picked as toddlers?!

:: Star Wars Themed Christmas Décor

Star Wars has been a pretty big theme throughout our marriage! We see every movie when it comes out, and I even threw him a Star Wars themed birthday when he turned 30!

It was only natural that when we saw the Star Wars Christmas inflatables we knew we HAD to use those in our holiday decorating. We started out with just Darth Vader and Yoda, but have grown the collection to include R2D2 and BB8.
