What Happened When I Tried the Carnivore Diet

0

Obviously, the first thing that happened when I went carnivore is that I reversed my age by 10 years and now look like a supermodel.

…Okay, maybe not.

I know, I know—you’re probably sick of hearing about fad diets. I get it. But for most people who take this seriously, it’s more than that. We call it a way of eating (WOE), because it’s a long-term lifestyle shift, rather than a quick fix. And honestly, that’s how all healthy eating should be.

A Little Context

I just turned 40. I’m a mom, wife, business owner, and super-duper busy. I love food—allll food. Eating out, cooking, snacking, you name it. I wasn’t overweight when I started, but I definitely had some body fat to lose. I also strength train three times a week, and have for years, so I was in good shape—but I wanted to see if this WOE could improve my body composition and overall health.

So, I committed to three strict months.

What Happened?

I lost 12 pounds
My skin looked amazing
Bloating and puffiness—GONE
Gained muscle while losing 2% body fat
Stopped feeling “starving” all the time

But Nothing is Perfect… Here’s What Sucked:

Hair loss after three months (it did grow back!)
Keto “flu” for the first seven days— misery
Lots of bathroom visits during the first week (not fun)

But What Was It Really Like?

Honestly? Hard.

The first two weeks sucked. I won’t sugarcoat it. But then, it got easier. Each week, I learned more about the electrolytes and minerals I was missing, so I added supplements, which helped a lot. Strength training also helped me maintain and even gain muscle while losing fat.

Eating out? Challenging, but doable. I figured out tricks:

  • Eat before I leave
  • Order food with no sides
  • Drink tons of water so I’d feel full

The Big Test: My Doctor’s Reaction

At five months in, I had my routine blood work done. I didn’t tell my doctor about my diet beforehand. When he reviewed my results, he said, “Your numbers are amazing. Keep doing whatever you’re doing.”

So, I told him.

To my shock, he responded: “That’s awesome. Keep it going.”

Where I’m At Now

After three months of strict carnivore, I shifted to eating mostly this way—but with some flexibility. I have been doing this for 6 months now, and maybe I will change it up one day, but for now, this is me.
-When I travel, I eat what I want.
-I have desserts sometimes.
-But 90% of my life is still a carnivore WOE.

Why? Because I feel good. It’s not terribly hard. And it just works for me.

Of course, it’s not for everyone (especially vegetarians—sorry, friends).

And before I go—DISCLAIMER: I’m not a doctor. I’m not offering medical advice. This is just my personal experience with the carnivore lifestyle.
