Normally, a Worth It Wednesday post is about paying a little more for a higher quality product that might be a splurge, but makes you happy. Or it might be about a product that just makes life a little easier. This post, however, is about buying store or generic brand products to save money, so you can treat yo self later. The items below are ones I use all the time. Check out Worth It Wednesday: Walmart edition.

Toilet Paper
My husband is very picky about his toilet paper. But during the great TP shortage at the beginning of COVID, I had to take what I could find. I was lucky enough to score some Great Value paper, and you know what? He couldn’t tell the difference. Now, it’s all we use.
Charmin Ultra Strong Toilet Paper, 12 Mega Rolls – $12.97
Great Value Ultra Strong Toilet Paper, 12 Mega Rolls – $10.72
That’s a savings of $2.25. Woohoo!
Trash Bags
I love Glad ForceFlex bags, because they are so strong and rarely tear. I took a chance on the Walmart brand and I’ve never looked back. They are just as strong and smell good, too!
Glad Tall Kitchen Trash Bags, 13 gallon, 80 bags, ForceFlex – $12.84
Great Value Tall Kitchen Trash Bags, 13 gallon, 80 bags, StrongFlex – $10.18
That’s a savings of $2.66. Nice!
Frozen Vegetables
Frozen veggies are great for soups, adding to mac and cheese or roasting. Compare:
Birds Eye California Blend Frozen Vegetables, 60 ounces – $5.74
Great Value California Style Vegetable Mix, 4 pound bag – $5.00
That’s a savings of 0.74 cents. Stay with me, it’s going to add up in the end!
Organic Vegetable Broth
Another item that is great for soups and casseroles, plus it’s organic.
Pacific Foods Organic Low-Sodium Vegetable Broth, 32 fluid ounces – $2.78
Great Value Organic Vegetable Broth, 32 ounces – $1.98
That’s a savings of .80 cents!
After totaling everything up, you could save $6.45 in one trip by using Walmart brand items. Well done, mama! That’s enough for a coffee run, or some new nail polish, maybe a new app on your phone – whatever makes you smile 🙂
Let’s take it a little further. If you purchase these items in one trip every month for six months, that works out to a savings of $38.70. If you purchase these items in one trip every month over 12 months, that works out to a savings of $77.40. And, if you purchase these items every two weeks for a year, that works out to a savings of $167.70. Now we are talking about saving up for something bigger like a vacation, new clothes or adding to an emergency fund. And that’s totally worth it.
