My dear friend has had quite a journey with cancer.
Her name is Lori and she is a mother of 4 beautiful children from the ages of 23 to the age of 11. Lori was first diagnosed with cancer in 2012. As I was hearing her describe and tell me about her journey, the word that kept coming up: faith!
Her faith is what has pulled her through.
Her faith to live and show her children to fight is what helped her. She was blessed to have her amazing husband by her side — she describes him as her solid foundation. He reminded her how strong she was. My friend realizes not everyone has that person in their life to remind them of how special they are, but has made it her mission to tell others they do matter. Lori’s kids all dealt with her diagnosis very differently, but she constantly reminded them, “the world needed her,” and it wasn’t her time. Even on those hard days she had to pretend and show her children it wasn’t as hard as it looked. “I saw they are watching me and it fueled me.”
She was fueled by the love for her family.
She knew she needed to fight. She knew her family depended on her. Just recently at the end of 2018, she had yet another scare with cancer and again she relied on her faith to pull her through. She had her days of doubt, but always believed the best was yet to come. She knew her story was not over and that everything she had endured in her life was just preparation for the battle to overcome. Since then, her recent surgery to remove a mass that turned out to be benign was successful. She is optimistic about her future and knows God is by her side and faith is her weapon to fight.
