Based on the children’s book, A Bear Called Paddington, the film version features the adorable bear Paddington and his red hat, as he travels to London after losing his home in Peru. He meets the Brown family, who agree to temporarily take him in.

What you might want to know:

There are some scenes of peril, including a fire that might be scary for younger kids. Also, Paddington’s bear family dies in the beginning, which could be upsetting for children. Nicole Kidman is a bit terrifying in her drive and coldness to trap Paddington and add him to her taxidermy collection. (Side note: I find Nicole Kidman a bit terrifying all the time.) There is a scene involving a drinking game with shots of whiskey.

What my family liked:

Like Paddington’s beloved marmalade, this film is very sweet.

The Brown family have their issues, but the love they have for each other becomes clear.

Paddington always uses good manners and tries his best to be helpful, even though he usually makes a mess. There is also slapstick comedy which kids will love. And, several examples of kindness, which is nice to see.

This movie didn’t hold my young’s son attention entirely, but he did enjoy the comedic sequences. I loved the British accents and Paddington’s sweet voice.

I give Paddington

3.5 out of 5 marmalades!

How about you?
