We are so thrilled to re-introduce long-time contributor, Erin, to our CCMB Readers!
Corpus Christi
For a Christmas vacation in 2013, my husband and I decided to spend a week in Port Aransas. Even though I am a native Texan, I had never spent much time on the coast. I was just a few months pregnant. It was cold and windy. But I took walks on the beach every day, and dreamed of doing the same when baby arrived. By May of the next year, we were living in Corpus with our son arriving in July.
I’ve had many firsts since being here – first baby, first time owning a home, first time skydiving, etc. And after five years of living in the Coast Bend, I am still discovering new and exciting firsts – things to see, try and taste!
Moms
I had my son at age 39. BTW: when you are pregnant at that age, it is referred to by doctors as a “geriatric pregnancy.” Fun!
Anyway, since I got started late, my kid will be an only child, which is fine with me. My husband and I have a looser parenting style than most of our peers who had children much earlier. Don’t get me wrong: we will lay down the law with the boy when he is getting out of hand. But we try and go with the flow as much as possible. I have been blessed to be at stay at home mom, for which I will be eternally grateful.
Blog
I wanted to write for Corpus Christi Moms Blog for a couple of reasons. One, most of my professional career has been spent writing for different forms of media: TV news, commercials, press releases, social media, etc. I had been thinking about blogging, so when the chance came to try it out through CCMB, I was excited. Second, I desperately needed to meet other moms. Hell, just other people in general. I have made new friends through this forum, which has been such a boost to mind and soul. Can’t wait to add more to the group.
Other Stuff About Me….
I lived in the Caribbean for almost eight years on various islands, and also traveled to Cuba. I managed a drive-in movie theater and won a national contest for a new digital projector. I got married days after turning 21, my husband was just 20 – now that I have a child, I would lose my s**t if my son came to me and said he was getting married at the age of 20. I love Weezer, 80s music and old school rap. I will put avocado or a fried egg on anything and happily devour it. I love to cook, read recipes and eat. I have seen the devastation created by Alzheimer’s and it sucks. It annoys me to no end when people drive fast in the slow lane. The beach and sand help me cope. Life is incredibly good!
