FRIDAY FAVES: 5 Things Giving Me Life Right Now {Jenn}

Welcome to our new series Coastal Bend Mom Co. FRIDAY FAVES!

Friday Faves | Coastal Bend Mom CollectiveIn a season of parenting that feels especially hard, our team is excited to share some of the things that are making us happy and helping us get through the days.

It is FRIDAY!!!!! I don’t know about you but every time I make it to a Friday lately I feel really accomplished. Between the kid’s virtual learning and my own college schoolwork, the weeks are challenging and stressful. As I type this I can smell the Biofreeze that is slathered on my back and neck because they have decided to seize up due to stress.

There is so much negative going around I wanted to share some things that are giving me LIFE in the midst of virtual learning, work, life, family, and the monotony of living 99.9% of our lives in my own home with no outside visitors.

These are my FIVE FRIDAY FAVORITES!!!

Coastal Bend Mom Collective | 5 Friday FavesReading

I will be honest with all of the schoolwork happening reading as an extracurricular activity was very low on my list of things that would relax me. On the other hand, I wanted to do something that didn’t involve a screen in the evenings so I remembered my box of Baby-Sitters Club books and I cracked that baby open. Some nights it is just me and some nights I will read them out loud to the kids, but it has been the best dose of nostalgia!

Watching

Not all evenings are spent with a book in the hand. I will be the first to admit that I tend to veg in front of the TV more often than not in the evenings. Staying up too late binge-watching and enjoying the quiet and uninterrupted time! I tend to watch the same shows over and over, but I decided to venture out recently and started a new series on Netflix. The show is called “The Umbrella Academy” and I am SO GLAD I started watching it! It is about 7 adopted siblings that all have special abilities/powers. They strive to be crime-fighting good guys but end up causing an apocalypse…..twice. It is a fun watch and currently has 2 seasons on Netflix available.

Listening

In the last year, I have found a LOVE of podcasts. I listen to them almost every time I am in my car, so much so that even my kids have their own favorite podcasts that they ask for when we are going somewhere! I couldn’t narrow this down to just one so I decided to share the APP that I use to listen to my podcasts! It is called Stitcher, you can use it and listen totally free, or you can upgrade and pay for the premium membership so that you can get special episodes and no ads!

Some of our favorite podcasts are: The Office Ladies (a rewatch podcast with the cast), The Dyslexia Quest, Empower Dyslexia, For the Love: Jen Hatmaker, Wow in the World (a kids science show), Bible Besties, Fake Doctors, Real Friends (a Scrubs rewatch podcast with the cast), The Ron Burgundy Podcast, Serial….

Drinking

I will admit, I have never been a huge fan of Starbucks. I always feel overwhelmed and pressured when ordering so 9 times out of 10 when I go I end up with hot chocolate because it is the simplest thing I can think to order. Then one day a few weeks ago I was so overwhelmed and having the worst day, my husband told me to go take a drive and recharge. We live in Portland so I can’t just go walk around Target without driving into Corpus so I decided to try my hand at ordering a specialty drink from Starbucks and then just sitting out at Sunset park letting the sound of the water calm and relax me! The drink I decided to order was a: Pink Drink with sweet cream foam and strawberry puree blended into the foam.

I had seen a few others post about this drink and sing it praises so I wanted to see what the fuss was all about. And let me tell you it is AMAZING!!! It is refreshing and sweet! I love it! So the next time you need a brain break head to Starbucks order this drink and park next to the water!

Wearing

I will be honest I have only worn “Real Clothes” a handful of times since March. What I have found that makes me happy is getting topical T-Shirts made by local #mombosses and paring those with some jean shorts! I am still comfortable enough to be at home all day, but I feel dressed enough that I feel like I am up and can function. It also helps me be more productive to feel like I am “dressed” for the day.

These are my top three favorite shirts I have collected in the last 4 months!

This one I got from Raining Rustic Boutique, a local boutique.

Five Friday Favorites

This one I bought from a local mom that was supporting those that are struggling in the oilfield right now! You can find her shop here at Sunshine Designs by Gaby Mitchell

Five Friday Favorites

This one says it all….. this is how I feel about this year! And when this year is over I can wear this shirt to remember where we were and be grateful to be in a better place! I bought this one from an Etsy shop of a girl I found on TikTok.

Jennifer is a Coastal Bend Native, born and raised in Ingleside. She began contributing to the Corpus Christi Moms Blog in 2018 and stepped up as the Community Engagement Coordinator in 2019. She is happiest when she is crafting, writing, or doing anything artistic. She loves music, especially ANYTHING from the 90's, and is often seen dancing around the kitchen to Nsync while cooking dinner. She is married to Derik and has two kids, Connor and Keeley (pronounced Key-Lee). Jennifer still feels like a novice when it comes to parenting and enjoys letting other moms know they are not doing life alone. She also admits she watches copious amounts of Netflix, but balances that out by reading to and with her kiddos as much as possible each day.
