I’ve decided the only way to describe where I’m from is to say “Texas.” I was born and raised near Houston by a surfer father, so we also spent many weeks every year on the beaches in Brazoria County. My husband and I were high school sweethearts and after marrying in 2002 we decided to move to North Texas, spending ten years in Fort Worth while we grew our family, finished degrees, and started careers. Most recently, we lived in Wichita Falls, where my husband started had the opportunity to become a principal. We finally moved to Corpus Christi in June of 2019, and we hope to stay put!
Professionally, I teach women how to chart their fertility cycles using the Creighton Model FertilityCare system (I know, it’s a mouthful). For six years, I’ve worked with couples trying to avoid or achieve pregnancy naturally, and many couples struggling with infertility. We collaborate with doctors practicing in a medical field known as NaPro Technology. My work is extremely rewarding and different every day.
In the last few years we decided one of our priorities was living somewhere with easy outdoor living. We were also kind of tired of the cold of North Texas so we started looking for somewhere with mountains, hiking, or beach access, and lots of sun! We currently live in the Bayside area, and we walk to the bay front several times a week. The newness of the beach definitely hasn’t worn off, and every time we walk over the dunes to get onto the beach, we feel so blessed to be here.
We have four children: “two bigs and two littles.” Ethan was born in 2003, Andrew in 2005, Mary Kathryn in 2012 and Thomas in 2014. I will say that just like anything else, parenting gets easier than more you do it! One of our children is on the autism spectrum and two have ADHD. All four are “twice gifted” in their own way, all learning to read before starting school and all of them having a natural gift for understanding math and numbers. Our children attend school at local Catholic schools, and two of our boys have their dad as their principal!
I’ve enjoyed writing since I was in elementary school. After college, I taught 2nd and 3rd grade for two years at a Catholic school, and writing was my favorite subject to teach! The remnants of a blog I wrote about frugality and getting out of debt the early 2000’s may also be out there somewhere on the internet if you really hunt for it. I’ve also blogged for my business, telling success stories of clients and educating readers about their fertility. I’ve just always loved a good story, which you can see by the messy stack of books on my bedside table.
For Corpus Christi Mom blog I’m excited to write about my wide variety of interests. I am also passionate about my Catholic faith, education, personal finance, responsible internet use for kids, and raising self-reliant, independent adults!
