Heather Gresham is a sponsor in CCMB’s annual guide to area photographers. She specializes in Children’s Portraiture and Composites.
One cannot have too many creative hobbies. That’s how local photographer Heather Gresham sees it. She always enjoyed drawing and painting. Then, nearly ten years ago, she added photography to her hobby list. Several years later, she decided to take it a step further. Professional Photography.
Around that time Heather took notice that people were starting to fall away from prints, hiring someone with a camera to take a number of photos and burn them to a disc that would end up in a drawer somewhere covered in scratches. The digital age was in full swing and rapidly, photography became a less appreciated commodity.
Always a lover of the arts, it pained Heather to see what was happening to the industry. She challenged herself to help restore in others an appreciation for the art of photography, helping other photographers recognize their worth, and putting family portraits back on walls (not the Facebook kind) again.
Over the years, while increasing her own knowledge of art, photography, and the creative process, Heather has assisted many new photographers in discovering a sincere appreciation for photography and self expression. If everyone on her block were a photographer, Heather thinks it might just be heaven on earth. She’d never be without someone to discuss her obsession with.
As a mother to four, Heather spends the majority of her time homeschooling, playing with, and caring for her children. She has always been inspired by their imaginations, which tend to be reflected in her own creative hobbies, especially in her photos.
Heather really loves creating fantasy images and bringing the daydreams of children to life. Some of her favorite images to create are of kids in dress up, pretending to be their favorite fairy tale and comic book characters!
Heather does a lot of composite work, blending multiple images together to create one final image. Although she has a studio set up, with lights and backdrops, they are rarely used. Heather finds that she can create the worlds she dreams of much easier with her computer.
While she does shoot weddings, traditional family portraits and such, what Heather really loves is doing this fantasy work. She can be original and create something really unique for her clients. Heather knows that if people are hiring her for fine art images, they appreciate her art, and that’s an indescribable feeling.
“I take photographs for myself, to create. I take them for others to give them something special to hang on their walls and place in their albums. I put my heart and soul into my images and while I will sell digital images, my photographs are created to be viewed in frames, earning a very special place in hearts and on walls.”
Such a beautiful write-up! Heather is an incredibly talented artist!
