Brunch. Growing up in Corpus Christi a few decades ago, brunch was a foreign concept to me. Something, I thought when I was a little older, that happened only on shows like Sex and the City.
Then, we moved to North Carolina for four years. It was a small town but had a great local restaurant that featured a weekly brunch. Suddenly, having a drink on a Sunday afternoon didn’t mean you might be an alcoholic. I didn’t have to decide if I was in the mood for breakfast or lunch. I could have either or both! And it just sounded so…sophisticated. “Sorry, Honey, you and the kids are on your own today. The girls and I are meeting for brunch.” Cue Carrie Bradshaw.
My brunch habit stopped once we moved back to Corpus Christi (well, at least the FOOD portion of my brunch stopped); probably a combination of having different friends, older kids with weekend activities, and just not associating Corpus with brunch.
To my surprise, the brunch scene here has grown quite a bit since my uninitiated days, and there are now several options. In fact, many restaurants will be serving brunch on Mother’s Day! So, channel your inner Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda or Samantha, and hit up one of these fine dining establishments for your moment of sophistication.
