Microblog: Rant about the Elf on the Shelf

0

Fair warning I just need to rant a little bit.

This morning after getting my kids up and ready for school, I started scrolling through my Social Media to pass the time while I waited for it to be time for us to head to school.

This was my first mistake…….

As I am scrolling I am seeing my friends or the pages that I follow sharing what their Elf on the Shelf was up to last night, or different articles about the Elf on the Shelf. Some in favor and some seriously disliking the Elf. This isn’t the part that bothered me, I can understand that some would love doing Elf on the Shelf, while others it is not their cup of tea.

Cool…..for our family it IS our cup of tea. It brings us all joy, it makes us laugh and it is legitimately fun for me each year coming up with new ideas!

Here is the part that triggered me, or made me feel like I needed to rant.

On SOOOO many posts I saw comments from moms saying how much they HATED the Elf and how they HATED seeing posts from other moms about the Elf day after day. They despised these people who felt like they NEEDED to share pictures of their elf each day. I have also seen memes for the last week or more that say something along the lines of “I’m already annoyed by your Elf on the Shelf posts.”

Seriously moms? After the year that we have all had in 2020??? THIS is the attitude we are going to take????????

WHY OH WHY can we not all agree that there are some traditions or things that bring families joy!!! And maybe those same activities don’t bring you joy and that is OK!!! But why do we have to shame, or put down the people who just want to share a bit of joy this year???

I’m not saying everyone needs to hop on board the Elf train and be converted to a fan, I’m not even saying you have to like a post that has to do with the Elf on the Shelf. But can we NOT feel the need to make other moms feel like they are annoying or less than because they choose to keep up the tradition and share pictures.

Maybe, like most of us, they have not seen the family in over a year, and they want their parents to feel connected to what is happening with their grandkids during the holidays.

Maybe they just want to share so that next year they can have these fun memories to look back on.

Maybe they are just, for the LOVE of sanity, trying to fill their feed with something that is full of joy and does not have to do with anything serious or scary!!!!

We are all trying our best to cope with the heaviness that 2020 has brought. Let us PLEASE take an attitude of grace, and understanding this Holiday Season.

And at the least of you are still “annoyed” by my daily Elf posting can you agree to roll your eyes in the privacy of your own home and scroll on and I promise to do the same???!!!

If you would like to see more Elf on the Shelf posting you can do so here!
