Microblog – Pick up your Masks!

Has anyone else noticed all of the face masks littering our beautiful community?

While I understand that we are living in a reality where face masks are the new “norm” – but why are we allowing these masks (both disposable and fabric) to litter our beautiful cities?

This has nothing to do with your beliefs on the pandemic and our requirement to wear face coverings. This has to do with some members of our great community NOT picking up after themselves.

And unfortunately — this is a problem in general and really has nothing to do with facemasks.

I used to be a public middle school teacher and so many teens and pre-teens literally did not think picking up after themselves was a priority.  While I definitely understand that teens typically are not the cleanest people – this behavior is definitely a learned trait.

Have you ever attended a school sporting event?  Take a look around when the game is over — the trash left in the stands and in the parking lot is embarrassing.

For that matter – look around any large parking lot (mall, Walmart, HEB) — trash is everywhere.  Add in the wind to our area — and it’s just not pretty.

We all need to go back to the basics of being kind humans — and just being clean… responsible … and respectful.. In all parts of our lives.

Just think back to the ole highway slogan of “Don’t Mess With Texas” – and apply it right here in the Coastal Bend.
