Microblog: A Sense of Normalcy

A sense of normalcy amongst the chaos of these days is something we all crave. Today my husband took my son to the swings here on the island. He sanitized them first and took the precautions necessary before putting our son in. Soon after he snapped a couple of photos and shared them with me as I continued on my day working from home. This image made my heart stop because to me this is a child experiencing pure joy and it reminds me that during this time of crisis, our children are affected too, whether we think they are or not. Whether they are big or small, their lives have been tossed upside down and they are doing their best, but there is a looming difference. There are many things in this world that our children don’t understand. What all children can understand, though, are the simple acts. Take them for a drive. Ride bikes together. Play with chalk. Swing above the clouds. They will appreciate the little moments you give them. They will hopefully one day look back and notice how mommy and daddy played more and filled their days with love. They will hopefully one day look back and not see the craziness of the year, but all the fun they had as a family. I am so glad to see my son, once a self-proclaimed king of swings, having his moment today.
