Microblog: The “Hoodie Vortex”

1

My daughter is not quite a teen yet, but I have plenty of nieces and friends who have kids that are tweens/teenagers. Observing them over time I have noticed this change that occurs when they reach a certain age. Their attitude begins to shift, and their wardrobe seems to transform.

Over the Summer I would drop off my nieces at summer school and all I would see was a SEA of children wearing hoodies. HOODIES!? Hoodies during the summertime, in the Texas heat? I was perplexed, to say the least.

Is there some secret society that blasts a memo out telling all the kids the dress code for Summer is a warm hoodie? I am genuinely curious. What is happening to the kids?

Is it a phase? Or maybe they are at that age where they begin to feel self-conscious about how they look? I tried to think back to when I was that age. I vaguely remember wearing sweaters sometimes.

I am not complaining, kids are free to figure out who they are and how they want to dress.

Everyone deserves to find their own way…

My question is though when did they all get pulled into the ‘Hoodie Vortex’?

  1. I wonder the same! I saw some kiddos at the bus stop this morning (when it was already in the 80s) wearing hoodies! I would be dying!
