Meet the Team: Katarina

The Coastal Bend has been my home away from home since before I moved here from the Rio Grande Valley for college in 2014. My family was always drawn to the Corpus Christi area growing up and we would take spontaneous road trips to visit the area constantly. I met my husband my junior year of college and we became parents unexpectedly, but happily, our senior year of college- 4 weeks before graduation to be exact. A year later, we tied the knot under the Harbor Bridge in June of 2019 with our son as our ring bearer. With my husband’s recent job change, we have now relocated to Kingsville, TX and I am excited to explore this part of the Coastal Bend as a family.

My husband and I welcomed our son, Maxon, in April of 2018 via emergency c-section. Our pregnancy was definitely unexpected as my husband, Mike, and I were still working our way to finish our degrees, but we couldn’t have been happier to start our family. Life since Maxon has been full of many ups but also some downs. Shortly after Maxon was born, I was struck with postpartum depression. I have come a long way since then, but I still struggle at times. I have made it my mission as a mom to raise awareness on perinatal mood disorders so that not one more woman has to suffer alone. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and I am exactly where I was meant to be.

Even though I majored in Biomedical Sciences, I have always been extremely passionate about writing and having a creative outlet. Lab reports were always my favorite! My motherhood journey has been a roller coaster of emotions, so in 2019, I decided to create a collection of my stories in my own personal blog. I love blogging and writing for parenting websites because it leaves behind my stories for generations to read. Now as a contributor for the Coastal Bend Mom Collective, I’m excited for the opportunity to write for an audience of women right here in my backyard and to be a part of this wonderful group of Coastal Bend women.

Katarina moved to the Coastal Bend area in 2014 to pursue her degree in Biomedical Science at Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi. She met her husband, Mike, her junior year of college while working as a resident advisor for on-campus housing. Katarina’s senior year was full of monumental life moments including getting pregnant, getting engaged, giving birth to her son Maxon, and graduating all in the span of 10 months. If it’s anything she learned during this time it’s how resilient women are through life’s ups and downs. Having suffered from postpartum depression, Katarina has made it her mission to shed light on perinatal mood disorders so that not one more woman suffers alone. During her free time, Katarina enjoys tumbling classes, blogging (personal IG blog handle @average.joe.momma), advocating, and teaching her son about all the wonders of the world.
