Meet the Writers: Say Hello to Darcy Esparza!
I moved to Corpus Christi back in 1995 (yes, I am the oldest writer on the blog). I was just 23 years old and had just graduated from the University of Florida (I grew up in Florida). My first “big girl” job was a TV News producer at KRIS-TV. For those of you who have lived here forever — this was the Dot Peterson, Mark Koelbel, and Dale Nelson era. Yes, I worked with Dale Nelson (I doubt he remembers me).
For work – we eventually moved to San Antonio, then Fort Worth and even Holliday, Texas before moving back to the Coastal Bend in 2012.
Today, we own THAT MATTRESS PLACE of Corpus Christi – a local veteran owned store.
I met my husband, Louie, in Corpus Christi almost immediately after moving to Texas. When we got married in 1999, I became a “cool” step-mom to two beautiful daughters, Sierra & Sabrina (today they are 30 and 28). A few years later, we expanded our family by two with Nina (19) and River (17). I think that having a step-mom myself and then being a step-mom helped me to become a better parent to all four of our children.
I am also a grandmother to three kids – two granddaughters and one grandson.
As a TV journalism major – I liked to write short, informative stories. While my career changed paths from the news field, to math teacher and now a local business owner – I still enjoyed writing. I became a writer for the blog just a few weeks before the 2020 pandemic. I like connecting with the community of moms with storytelling and Instagram takeovers.
