Meatball Sub Roll Recipe

I’d like to say I could take credit for this recipe but I actually got the idea scrolling through the app TikTok. I can no longer find the original video but if you are familiar with the app you probably saw it go viral. Not because of how awesome the recipe is {although it is awesome} but because it was a woman talking about how she was making it specifically for her husband’s lunch to take to work.

I’ll admit that I did not write down the exact things that she did so I had to make it up as I went when I decided to make this for my own family. All that being said, this has become a favorite meal in our home. Eaten by all and it is so easy! I wanted to share here so that you can get some new inspiration. I don’t know about you but at this point in the year, I need all of the help I can get with easy meals that I have not cooked hundreds of times.

Please enjoy this Meatball Sub Roll Recipe, or as we lovingly call it, a giant homemade “Hotpocket.”

Note: I make two and they easily feed my family of 4. If you have bigger kids or kids with big appetites you may need more.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Bag Fully Cooked Meatballs {homemade or store bought}
  • 2 Cans Pillsbury Crescent rolls
  • 1 Jar Marinara sauce {flavor is up to you. It can be plain or one like I have from HEB, the Garlic & Herb}
  • 8 Oz. Bag Shredded Cheese {can be mozzarella or I like the Pizza Blend}
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Pizza Cutter

Instructions:

  1. Pre-Heat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Open the Crescent Rolls and roll out dough onto a greased pan. Pinch together the seams since you want it in one large piece.
  3. Sprinkle Italian seasoning, Salt, and Pepper {to taste} on the dough.
  4. Down the middle spoon Marinara Sauce all the way down {Not too much so that it overflows but enough to hold the meatballs in place.}
  5. Place as many Meatballs as you can down the middle in the sauce.
  6. Spoon a little more Marinara Sauce over the top, then top with cheese all the way down.
  7. With a Pizza Cutter slice small slits on both sides of the meatballs, trying to stay in line with each other. Making small dough wings all the way down.
  8. Then cross them over the top of each other making it into a braided roll.
  9. Sprinkle top with more Italian Seasoning.
  10.  Once you have done this twice, you will place both rolls into the oven for 20-25 mins.

    You can serve with more marinara sauce on the side for dipping; even top with more cheese if you like.
