St. Patrick’s Day has always been a fun holiday in our house. One of my favorite traditions we have incorporated is to make all sorts of different green foods. Even before having children, I would make a big green breakfast or dinner for my husband depending on our schedules that day. Now that we do have children, it is a good excuse for me to make things that maybe we don’t always eat, but this fun twist makes them more willing to try. They get a few treats that we do not normally keep in the house.

Here are a few food ideas for you to try this St. Patrick’s Day with your family…
Breakfast
Breakfast may be the easiest way to incorporate some green fun into your day. You can get up early and start the day with some magical foods, or you could even do breakfast for dinner! I will normally make a big batch of green pancakes with any breakfast sides the family requests. All you need to do is make your favorite pancake batter and add a few drops of green food coloring. To take it a step further and add a few drops of coloring to everyone’s milk glass!
Lunch
An idea for a fun green inspired lunch is to find a spinach wrap tortilla and make green quesadillas. You can even cut them into some shamrock shapes and serve this with a few green grapes. You’ll be sure to satisfy even the pickiest toddler!
Snacks
Snack time is probably my kids’ favorite time of the day, and sometimes I hate to admit, it runs into meal times. I try to keep our snacks as healthy and filling as possible, but on times like this I will add in a few sugary treats for the fun of it. I try to limit them to one sugary treat prior to lunch so we don’t have a sugar rush during bed time. One of my favorites is the lucky charm rice crispy treats. These are made just like regular rice crispy treats, but replace the cereal with Lucky Charms. These are also a great idea to make if your kids have a class party and you need a quick treat.
If you want to stay on the healthier side of snacking, green deviled eggs are a really good choice. Once you have boiled and peeled your eggs, cut and remove the yolk, then soak the egg whites in a cup of water and green food coloring. Once done drain them on a paper towel, add the yolk back for the perfect Irish Deviled egg.
Dinner
Once you reach dinner you may be tired of green foods! For this I would suggest looking up your favorite Irish recipe. Pinterest is my favorite place to get inspiration for most of my meals. This allows you to still have some fun and do something a little different, but not go totally green with your meal. Or as I said before, St. Patrick’s Day is a great day to have breakfast for dinner.
What fun things do you and your family like to do for St. Patrick’s Day? Do you have a special meal you like to make? I’d love to hear your ideas in the comments.
