Today I have a super useful DIY I want to share with you, Diy Lotion Bars. If you’ve ever been to Lush you know how amazing their Massage Bars are. They feel so nice on the skin and are made of truly moisturizing ingredients. Due to the craziness of the last year, I have not been able to go to the mall and shop Lush in person. Ordering Lush products online is hard for me personally because I live in South Texas. It’s too hot to ship a product that melts at body temperature, they also recommend you buy this product in-store. Since I’m not able to get to the mall I decided it was time to learn to make my own massage bars. After a little bit of research, I came up with a recipe that I really love.
Why Make Your Own Lotion Bars?
Learning to make your own lotion has many, many benefits. The first and most obvious benefit is you know what’s in it! No more mystery rashes and reading long ingredients lists. I’m so sensitive to lotions, and so are my toddlers. Buying natural ingredients in bulk and processing them into lotion yourself will cost you some extra time, but it will save you money! The ingredients are all-natural and there are no preservatives or plastic which is so important to me. I’m reducing plastic when possible and putting lotion in bar form saves a lot of plastic from ending up in our landfills. You can also use every last bit of your lotion bar, with no leftovers at the bottom that the pump can’t reach.
How to Assemble Massage Bars
Making lotion bars is really simple. You will need a cupcake tin and some liners so you can make the actual bars. Fill the cupcake tin with 9-10 cupcake liners if it’s a regular size tin. Combine all ingredients in a large measuring cup. Next Melt the coconut oil, beeswax, shea butter, olive oil, and essential oil In the microwave for one-minute intervals. it should only take a few minutes. Pour into the lined cupcake tin and allow it to sit at room temperature. Once they are partially set sprinkle on some mint tea leaves and let the bars finish setting up. I got some glass candle holders at the dollar tree to set them on. I wrap the ones I’m not using up tightly and store them in the freezer since there are no preservatives in this recipe.
I usually make this recipe really quickly when I’m already in the kitchen doing something. It’s very simple and quick. I’ve made this recipe over five times at this point because I love making new scents and tweaking the recipe. This summer I made a lemongrass, honey, hibiscus version that was really amazing. The first time I made this recipe I used lavender essential oil and sprinkled a little dry lavender on top, I felt very proud of the finished product and couldn’t wait to try with more essential oils. I chose mint for this rendition because it seems like the perfect light scent for winter. I hope you enjoy making this simple DIY and using your own homemade lotion bars!
