Music Countdown

The holidays are upon us! Christmas is coming soon. There’s Christmas shopping, decorating, holiday food, holiday movies, and festive gatherings. Figuring out what your child wants from their extremely specific list. Ha-ha. Sometimes the stress of Christmas gets me a little overwhelmed. So, I put on some music to get me in a cheerful mood, from my phone or the radio in my car. Our local radio station here in Corpus Christi (93.9 FM) plays Christmas music 24/7 around this time of year.

Last year I wrote a list of my top favorite Christmas movies, this year I decided to countdown my favorite Christmas songs. Just a little joy for your listening pleasure.

12. Baby It’s Cold Outside (Idina Menzel duet with Michael Bublé)- I love Idina Menzel’s voice and this version is very flirty and sweet.

11. You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch (From the animated “Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas”) Thurl Ravenscroft & Boris Karloff- Who doesn’t know about THE GRINCH? My daughter loves this story and every year we make sure to watch it on tv.

10. The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late) Alvin & The Chipmunks- “Allllvinnn!!” One of my daughter’s favorite Christmas songs. It’s just plain fun.

9. Where Are You Christmas (Faith Hill)- This is from the soundtrack of the live action “Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” I just love this song it’s beautiful melody and the lyrics seem appropriate for the year I think we have all been having.

8. Do You Hear What I Hear (Carrie Underwood)- There are so many versions of classic Christmas songs, but Carrie absolutely does this song justice.

7. Last Christmas (Wham!) – Who doesn’t love a good 80s Christmas song? I’m always humming along.

6. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays (*NSYNC)- I had to put a ‘boyband’ holiday song. That’s all. Do I need a reason?

5. Feliz Navidad (José Feliciano)- I can’t go through the holidays without hearing this song. It just reminds me of home.

4. I’ll Be Home for Christmas (Bing Crosby)- From the 1954 movie White Christmas. I actually saw this movie for the first time last year and loved it. The songs are all Christmas classics.

3. The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You) Nat “King” Cole- I think everyone should know the beginning to this song by heart. “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, jack frost nipping at your nose…” The quintessential Christmas song.

2. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (Judy Garland)- Judy sang this song from the 1944 movie Meet Me in St. Louis. It is one of my absolute favorite Christmas songs.

1. All I Want for Christmas is You (Mariah Carey)- The diva herself. The ultimate Christmas song. It gets stuck in my head every year. It is the highest-selling holiday digital song of all time and I can see why.

There you have the music countdown of my favorite Christmas songs! Let me know some of yours and they can make my list next year.
