Several years ago I got tired of the Santa Claus and Snowman wrapping paper that you find at your local big-box stores. Not to mention, none of it really matched the overall aesthetic I was going for. The presents just looked like a pile of red and green under the tree. So I started my own Holiday tradition and began wrapping presents in a theme every year. I have been keeping up with this tradition for seven years and is probably one that I am most proud of. Each year I see it as a challenge of creativity to beat the previous years.
Snowman/woman (2019)
This was super easy, but also could be more extravagant depending on the effort you want to put in it. I kept it simple and used white wrapping paper, with a sharpie and some twine to complete the look.
Christmas Trees (2018)
This was supposed to be pretty simple but wifey decided she didn’t like the ‘basic’ Christmas trees so they quickly became Origami Christmas Trees. I choose the red because as you can tell from the other years brown wrapping paper can get old.
Reindeer (2017)
This was probably my favorite out of all the years. All you need is some red pom poms, googly eyes, a hot glue gun, a sharpie and some brown wrapping paper. Looking back I wish I would have made the ears extend past the package with paper.
Chalkboard (2016)
This was probably the most time consuming of all my designs because I wanted each gift to have a different winter design on it. I was impressed at how much my drawing improved throughout the month of December and immediately crashed after the holidays.
Santa Suit (2015)
This design was the most painful, simply because of the process of attaching the tulle on with hot glue, but also because I cut each of the white belt buckles out with an exact-o knife. My hands were a mess and I’m pretty sure I lost every fingerprint.
This was probably one of my favorites and because of its simplicity, but also its ability to start a conversation. I made sure each picture was an embarrassing picture of the person receiving the gift.
Brown Paper Packages Tied up With String (2013)
In traditional theater teacher style, the inspiration for all of these designs started with Sound of Music. My very first year I wrapped each gift in brown paper and carefully tied with red and white string. Oh, how I long for simpler times.
Stay tuned to find out what this year’s theme will be….
