DIY Recipes for Simply Natural Skincare

I’ve always had a love for all things skincare: oils, sprays, lotions, scrubs, you name it! And I often wonder what’s really in them.  Many ingredient names consist of nearly every letter of the alphabet, don’t occur naturally, and are filled with preservatives to extend shelf life.  It’s best to be mindful of what we eat by choosing healthy, organic, nutrient rich foods.

Shouldn’t we be just as mindful of what we put on our skin?

On one of my recent “me time” mini shopping excursions, I was given a few skincare samples. Score!  I fell in love with a treatment lotion that contained White Tea.  My mind started working like a hamster running in it’s wheel (clink, clink, clack.)

Hey, I have tea bags! Why can’t I make my own treatment lotion/toner?

So I did a little research. And here are a few of my favorite skin care recipes:

Green Tea Toner

This toner is great for your skin.  I bought a glass spray bottle at the grocery store for less than $2.  Keep your green tea toner in the refrigerator (and label it so it won’t get consumed!) for up to 14 days.

Lavender & Rosemary Milk Bath

This milk bath is awesome!  Use this when you have 10-15 minutes to spare for a little pampering. This recipe makes 2 1/2 cups which is enough for 6 or 7 baths.

1/2 cup powdered buttermilk

1/2 cup Epsom salts

1/2 cup nonfat powdered milk

1/2 cup fine sea salt

1/4 cup kosher salt

1 teaspoon powdered lavender

1 teaspoon powdered rosemary

  1. Combine all ingredients and blend well in a food processor or blender.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a prepared container and seal tightly. Kept dry in a cool, dark place. This milk bath will stay fresh for 1 month.
  3. To use, add about 1/3 cup of milk bath to running water as you fill your bath.

Bathtub Soap Crayons

Can’t leave the kiddos out! So here’s a recipe for them! This is a great website for do-it-yourself ideas.
