I got the Covid-19 Vaccine and This is How it Went

So, by the title of this post, I’m sure you’re all thinking the same thing: How did it go?

Let me tell you, I wasn’t going to get the vaccine. It wasn’t my first choice. I suffer from anxiety, however, my mother in law convinced my husband and I to get it.

We got our vaccine on Tuesday, January 6, 2021. We qualified since my mother in law and my dad work for the hospital. We filled out the paperwork and went in at 8 am. When my time came, they prepped my arm and administered the vaccine. It didn’t hurt, I didn’t even know she had poked me. But I definitely felt when the dose was being injected.

Once you’re finished, they write the time you were given the shot and put you in a holding area to make sure there are no reactions. Luckily, my family knows how much I do NOT like to be alone, so my dad texted me and said to look to my left – and there he was waiting for me at the end of the hallway. It gave me an instant sense of peace that comforted me. I waited 15 mins and was cleared to leave.

Over the span of leaving to getting home and doing all the things, I felt my arm starting to get sore, which was to be expected. I could only raise my left arm halfway. But again, to be expected.

Here’s where things started getting “Covid-like”. At around 5:15 pm, the symptoms I started having were chills, pain at the injection site, a headache, muscle pain, fatigue, and a mild fever. I texted my mother in law and my husband right away. I let them know my symptoms. Fortunately, with her working so closely with the hospital, she was able to contact the pharmacy director and health nurse and let them know what I was experiencing. They both recommended Extra Strength Tylenol. I took 2, and within the hour, my symptoms started fading. My husband didn’t experience any symptoms, just the arm soreness.

Now let me tell you if Covid is anything like the symptoms I experienced, it sucked. And that was only for a few moments I had to deal with them.

I am now on my 7th-day post vaccine and haven’t felt any additional symptoms develop or felt any different. My next dosage is in February.

My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to anyone fighting this awful virus. And to anyone who has lost loved ones, I pray you find peace that they are no longer suffering.

Please continue to do your part to slow the spread and mask up.
