Whether you’ve been counting down the days or savoring each minute as much as possible, we can no longer avoid the fact that the school year is approaching! It’s time to bring back the backpacks and lunch boxes. It’s also time to get your family prepared for unwanted things your child may bring back from school… You know, like the common cold, head lice, pink eye, and all that other fun stuff!
Do you know there are numerous ways you can boost your kid’s immune system and help keep their bodies healthy?
Now, I’m not an expert, but I am a mom who cares about holistic health and has done some research. So, I’m here to share a few tips I’ve picked up to help the immune system, and hope you will share some as well!
1. Back to the Basics
So much of our body’s health relies on our simple every day choices. You already know what I’m going to say. It’s nothing new. Drink plenty of water, lay off the refined sugars, up the fruits and veggies, and limit the amount of processed foods your family eats. I know, this tip is never very glamorous, but it’s the most important one that often gets overlooked.
2. Essential Oils
Now, I know this is somewhat of a trendy bandwagon to jump on, but I recommend jumping. There are so many essential oils that can be used as preventative measures to act as a protective barrier to your child’s immune system. Some essential oils that have natural antiviral and antibacterial properties are: melaleuca (tea tree), frankincense, lavender, and lemon. We use these every day in our home, and I love how it’s become the norm for my family. Just be sure to do your research and find a brand you love and trust for your family.
3. Colloidal Silver
While this may be a relatively new term for some moms (myself included), colloidal silver is a must have for every mom. Simply put it’s a water solution containing tiny particles of silver. It’s an odorless and tasteless clear liquid. Colloidal silver has tons of antiviral and antibacterial properties. You can use this on your skin and also take this internally. Be sure you don’t take colloidal silver more than 14 days in a row, as your body needs time to recover from the highly antiviral properties. So even though you won’t be using this product every day, you’ll be glad you have it when you need it. Again, be sure to do your research and purchase from a brand you know and trust!
4. Fermented Foods
Don’t worry—if sauerkraut isn’t your thing, there’s other fermented foods you can try! Giving your body fermented foods everyday provides it with probiotics that are needed for optimal gut health. As crazy as it sounds, many other areas of your body are affected by your digestive system, so you want to make sure it’s functioning properly. Some other yummy options for fermented foods/probiotics are yogurt (dairy free if you prefer), kombucha, or kefir.
5. Positive Environment
Again, it may get overlooked that our mental health affects our physical health, but it’s all connected. We may not be able to control the environment at our kid’s school, but we can provide a loving environment in our home. I know this is sometimes easier said than done (because some days are just plain hard), but as moms we can provide love, encouragement, and support our children need to thrive.
I could go on, but I think that’s enough for now! I’d love to hear from you! What do you do to keep your kids healthy?
