Dressing a Plus Size Baby Bump in the Summer!

0

First off, Congratulations on your pregnancy! Whether you are a first-time mom or an established snack provider for a toddler, we all look for ways to make us feel our best and that includes dressing your baby bump!

Now is the time to embrace all the joys of being pregnant and feeling the flutters of your growing babe. The last thing you want to do is stress yourself on how to style or dress your beautiful belly!

When I was pregnant with my first son, I knew zilch on how to dress. I honestly would wear my non-maternity pants until I couldn’t anymore then switched over to leggings. So the majority of my pregnancy I was in oversized shirts, jeans being held together by hair ties and leggings. I was a first-time mom and wasn’t worried about my wardrobe. My worrisome self was more interested in the top of the line bottles, Paci’s, diapers, and bum cream. Fast forward to almost 2 years later, pregnant with another baby boy, and dealing with the high temps in Texas…well, let me just say: it’s not for the faint of heart! That being said – I’ve got your back and today I am here to help you dress that beautiful baby bump!

So for size reference (pre-pregnancy), I typically wear a size 16 in bottoms and 1x-2x tops.

I’m roughly about 5’7ft.

Dressing your Baby Bump: Dresses

When it comes to dresses have fun and play around with different prints! During the hot summer months, the last thing you want is to be covered in layers of clothing. The less clothes the better. Dresses help with the stress of putting outfits together. First and foremost, shop your closet before heading out. Chances are you have what you need underneath your nose. You can change the style of a dress by adding a shirt cropped and knotted or pair with a hat and statement earrings. When I have to go out and look for a dress, I usually just size up one size and look for the empire waist line dresses, to give room for your bump to grow.

Dressing your Baby Bump: Shorts/Jeans

I would say invest in good pairs of maternity shorts/jeans. I’ve found some at Ross but didn’t nearly last me as long as the ones from Target. When I wear jeans or shorts, I usually pair them with camis and kimonos. It gets really really hot and humid in South Texas, and let’s be real, the fewer clothes the better, but still being put together. You can get so many uses and just change the color of the cami or get several kimonos to make your outfit pop! Cami’s I’ve found fairly inexpensive are from Walmart ranging from $1.98-$5. Kimonos are in style now and you can get them just about anywhere now.

I hope this has inspired you to stray away from oversized t-shirts and leggings for a few days and try something new! When you look good you feel good!

So Mama, take that BUMPIE, show it off, and embrace your growing belly.
