It’s no secret that we’re big book lovers in my family. One of our favorite ways to find new books is to visit our local library. Did you know the Coastal Bend has over 20 different libraries, each of which provide services for babies, kids, teens and adults? How lucky are we?!
The first Saturday of February is “bring your child to the library day” and many of the Coastal Bend libraries are having special events on February 4 to celebrate. Stop by your local library, get your child (and yourself!) a library card, and enjoy the magic that is reading a good book.
For the teens, the American Bank Center will host the 8th annual Teen Bookfest by the Bay. This event supports, promotes and celebrates the joy of reading for the tweens and teens in the Coastal Bay. This is a FREE book festival that is funded by grants and donations, and is hosted by Coastal Bend librarians and educators.
The Ellis Memorial Library in Port Aransas is celebrating with a storytime where Pete The Cat Checks Out The Library by James Dean will be read and books will be given away to participants.
The Bell Whittington Public Library in Portland is celebrating with a family makerspace and an open building time with blocks.
The Keach Family Library in Robstown is celebrating Take Your Child to the Library Day on Wednesday, February 8. There will be two storytimes, a Lego challenge for teens, a library scavenger hunt and take home craft kits.
The Victoria Public Library is celebrating with activity pages in the children’s section of the library. You can also register your child for their own library card and/or the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program!
