Do you Wanna Be My {Mom} Friend?

2

Our eyes meet from across the room and we both smile shyly at each other. We fidget with our hands while waiting to make the first move. After what seems like an eternity of wanting to talk to each other, but being too shy or too afraid to do so, she finally speaks first… and it was friendship at first sight!

For me, making friends now that I am a mom, is just about as awkward as I would imagine dating would be after a divorce. Keep in mind that I am happily married, so this is just an assumption, but like marriage keeps you out of the dating pool, being a mom can sometimes keep you out of the friend scene. Let’s face it ladies, we’re sometimes up all hours of the night cleaning up puke, but unlike our younger years, the company has changed. It’s no longer our drunk sorority sisters we’re partying with and taking care of, it is the beautiful, albeit life altering little creatures we have been blessed with. Our lives get so consumed with taking care of them and running a household, we slowly fall out of touch with our previous lives. The life where we could get a pedicure, a cocktail, or *gasp* go to the bathroom without having time constraints. For those of you like me, that means a lot of time at home with my kids, which unfortunately, equates to losing touch with many of my friends of yesterday.  Yes, there are a few that still stick around, especially if they are in the same season of life you are in, i.e. having small kids, teenagers, babies, etc, but then just being able to find the time to see each other becomes the kicker.

Wanna be my friend- Corpus Christi Moms Blog

As a mom, there are so many things you now have to consider when you do finally see that cool mom you could totally be friends with, at the park, a birthday party, or in the school pick up line…once you get the nerve to talk to her.  Will our kids get along? Do we parent in similar ways? Will our husbands like each other as much as we do? Will our nap times, school schedules and extra curriculars allow for play dates, mom’s nights out and if we’re REALLY lucky, the occasional double date with our hubbies… that is if we can find the perfect babysitter! And the piece de resistance (for me), will she have the same obsession of  Hallmark channel movies as I do and can she binge watch them with me, in my totally less than spotless house, on that VERY rare occasion that we are totally kid free? But, you want to know what I’ve learned?

You won’t ever know the answer to any of these questions if you don’t muster up the courage to go and talk to her.

So put your fears and apprehensions aside and march on up there and introduce yourself. Who knows, she just may be the Ethel to your Lucy, the Laverne to your Shirley…. I’d name some from today’s generation, but all I watch is the Hallmark channel, so I’m out of the loop, but you get the point! So go on ladies and ask her out….for a girls night. You deserve it, Momma!

Kathie
Kathie is blessed to be a stay-at-home mom to two silly, handsome and loud boys. The ringing in her ears proves just how loud they are! For almost 11 years, she has been happily married to her high school sweetheart, the biggest hunter and fisherman you'll ever meet. All is great until the season starts and Kathie becomes a hunting widow. Kathie's boys share her husband's obsession with the outdoors, which allows her some much needed time to herself. Kathie loves all things pink, sparkly and monogrammed. She dreams of her next vacation and desperately wants to move to the mountains one day, even though she probably wouldn't last 5 minutes there in the winter. When she has time, she obsessively watches Hallmark Channel movies, especially ones with Candace Cameron Bure.
