Library Love: Celebrating National Library Week

The week of April 7th through the 13th is National Library Week in the United States.

First started in 1958, the week honors libraries, library workers and promotes library use and support.

This makes my heart feel so happy!

I love the library…I have ever since I was first able to get a library card at age 6!

I loved walking among the shelves, the peace and quiet and of course the books. When I realized I could take home a pile of books to read, for free…well, my little mind was blown!

I worked in the library in junior high. I adored organizing and re-shelving books, getting to read the newest magazines first and seeing what my peers were reading.

In college, the sanctuary of the library cubicles helped me study my way to a bachelor’s degree.

As I’ve grown, I’ve watched libraries expand to offer more than books – internet access, movies, classes for adults, help for small businesses, etc. I love it.

When I take my pre-schooler to the library, I feel like a kid again – running my fingers across the shelves, searching for a title that catches my eye.

I don’t think my son likes it as much as I do, but I will still keep taking him with me when I go. 😉

National Library Week will be celebrated at Nueces County libraries in Robstown and Bishop, with all kinds of events, including a Golden Ticket scavenger hunt, to a toddler drive-in to Speed Date with a Book. To find out more, visit: http://www.youseemore.com/nueces/default.asp
