Corpus Christi
Hola and hello my lovely Corpus Christi friends! My name is Marissa Ackerman and I was raised until my high school graduation in the coastal bend, way out in the boonies, in a place called Annaville (right between Calallen and Robstown). For most of my twenties, I lived in San Marcos, Austin, and Houston where I had many adventures, held a couple of corporate jobs, and secured my bachelor’s degree from Texas State University. Go Bobcats! I have now recently moved back to the city with my husband and two-year-old son and we reside on the island. I am happy to be back to be closer to my family, embrace the slower pace of this coastal city, and thrive in my most recent job role.
Moms
I may work full-time during the week as an account executive for a thriving tech company, but my most important role is mom to my beautiful boy, Jacob Roman. He is my husband and I’s world and our only child (so far). As first time parents, my husband and I have dealt with the normal struggles that each couple faces: how to balance work-home life. Most recently, I have become the temporary sole provider while my husband gets a break and looks for new work in the city. This role reversal has been a challenge because although I have always worked, in my last job role I had the flexibility of working from home. Now, I am on the road the majority of the week and gone most of the day, meaning my husband has now become what we playfully call a “housband” or house-husband. All of our sacrifices and changes are very worth it though as we continue to try and do whatever we can to give our son the best environment and upbringing.
Blog
Writing to me has always been one of my favorite pastimes and a kind of therapy. I am so glad to be able to join this team of diverse mothers as we write about the many aspects of parenting and dive into other topics related to living in the coastal bend. I have been a contributor and have successfully launched a couple of blogs for companies in education and women empowerment, and hope that my stories I have to share resonate well with many of you.
