Many people are familiar with the lures of antique shopping. The HUNT! The FINDS! The EXTREME EXCITEMENT of discovering a hidden gem! That is how I feel about resale shopping. I am a mommy of three and children’s resale is my jam!
Come with me on my year journey of finding gems at a local Corpus Christi resale shop called The Funky Frog!
With Child 1, everything I had was new! Child 2 received hand me downs from older brother, as they are only 22 months apart. Fast forward five years, all the gear used for Child 1 and Child 2 was grown out of and passed on to family members with other little boys. When we were expecting Baby 3, I needed everything! AGAIN! So I honed some skills and tips for navigating the resale world.
#1 Research!
This time around, I researched gear! I wanted the best, the things that would make it easier for me to get around with three kids! I found so many amazing items! I wish most of those items had been around when I was pregnant with Child 1! I wanted them all! But you know, momma is on a budget now that our family has grown so big, so spending $400 plus on a jogging stroller was out of the question! But do I/should I settle for the lesser version? Worry not dear friends! I GOT IT ALL for a fraction of the retail price!
#2 Deal or no Deal?
Compare retail pricing to the resale pricing. During one visit to Funky Frog I was strolling leisurely through the aisles when I spotted it! That premium jogger that was $400+ and accented in pink! Perfect for baby girl! Guys, I scored! The premium jogger was in perfect, like new pre-loved condition for less than half the retail price! I had found my gem for a fantastic deal!
#3 Enjoy the Adventure of Resale Saving
I definitely had my “mission items” that I would hunt down. Thankfully, Funky Frog posts pictures and live video of baby gear and clothing on their Facebook page as it comes in! Take a few seconds to look through and try to spot your wanted item! If you see it, you can message the Funky Frog on Facebook messenger or call the store to check availability and hold the item for you! If you can’t find it, stop in and get on their “want list” for that specific item! When they get that item in, they’ll give you a call and let you take a peek and purchase before anyone else! This was a life and time saver for me!
#4 Act Fast and Early
“The early bird gets the worm” when it comes to resale! The Funky Frog brings in premium and high end gear for a fraction of the retail store price! So if you are in browsing or keeping on eye on their Facebook page and that special item pops up, snag it! I promise, if you don’t, someone else will!
